Wordpress is generally used for blogging. However, Wordpress is also ideal for setting up a static CMS website. The advantage of using Wordpress as a platform for static website is that we can take advantage of the numerous plugins in Wordpress such as form, sitemap, etc.

To create a Wordpress-based static website,

1. create a page without title. This page will be used for the frontpage.

2. Goto the settings -> Reading -> Front Page display

3. Select the page as the static page for Front Page

The reason of not specifying the title, so that the title will not appear on the front page.

don’t forget to install essential SEO plugins like All in One SEO or Headspace 2. A sitemap plugin is also a necessity. Wordpress static sites are terrific. Easiest platform there is and the plugins available are amazing.

Quick and simple and to the point. I don’t see the point of doing this though, i’ve been really getting in to wordpress 2.7 lately and i much prefer to just build a quick template directly on to wordpress files itself, header.php etc and create a wordpress page from the admin cp, then select that as the front page.

I have been playing around with the idea of doing this.. I have to create a website for my mom’s company, and am getting lazy, customizing a wordpress site or creating an awesome site from scratch is really pushing me towards wordpress.
    Thanks for the post

Nice post, aside from that WP is also a smart way to have a fully-functional website with minimal time and hassle.
